. . . a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance . . .
a time to mourn, and a time to dance . . .
Ecclesiastes 3:4
Time . . . the thing we think we never have enough of. The biblical book of Ecclesiastes chronicles the writer’s (generally thought to be King Solomon) journey to finding purpose in life. He searched through all the world could offer, and never found peace and purpose in those things. The section in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 says that you have certain givens in life. They all have their place and time. Once you learn to go with the rhythm of life experiencing the myriad of conflicting human emotions in their proper seasons and trusting the God who gives you life, you find that sense of peace and purpose that the writer had been searching to find. Ultimately, all we do have is time. And we don’t know just how much time each of us has. That’s why we get out of bed each morning and accept with joy this gift of LIFE and TIME we have been given and use it to the best of our ability. When we get dealt a blow of loss, we grieve but we get back up ultimately and move forward. When we are happy, we rejoice, thank God and share His goodness with others. There are appropriate times to laugh and appropriate times to cry. The fulfilled person does not avoid emotion, they just deal with it in a healthy, timely way.
“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:14-16
